Fox News attracted some criticism in 2019 after announcing that former Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile had joined the network to provide a liberal perspective to the network’s coverage.
Those days now appear to be over, as reports indicate Brazile has cut ties with Fox News to join ABC News as a contributor.
“Everyone treated me courteously as a colleague”
Of course, many of the cable news channel’s viewers will not be sorry to see her go, considering her frequent on-air criticism of former President Donald Trump and other Republicans, not to mention her defense of progressive causes and organizations like Black Lives Matter.
The New York Times reported on her exit in an article published on Friday, signaling that it was an amicable agreement.
“Fox never censored my views in any way,” Brazile said. “Everyone treated me courteously as a colleague.”
As for her motivation for joining the network, she expressed her belief that “it’s important for all media to expose their audiences to both progressive and conservative viewpoints.”
Following President Joe Biden’s first 100 days in office, however, Brazile declared: “I’ve accomplished what I wanted at Fox News.”
“But I decided to return to ABC”
The Daily Beast subsequently reported that she has joined ABC as a paid contributor and will make her debut on that network during Sunday’s broadcast of This Week.
Even during her stint at Fox News, she had been permitted to make occasional appearances — albeit as an unpaid guest commentator — on ABC programs.
Brazile told the Daily Beast that “all is good” between her and Fox News, revealing that she had been offered a contract extension but decided to turn it down.
“When my contract expired, they offered me an additional 2-4 years,” she wrote in a statement to the outlet. “But I decided to return to ABC.”
She not only faced backlash for her progressive politics while on Fox News, but she also remained under a cloud of controversy after leaked emails revealed that she provided 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton advanced access to debate questions. CNN subsequently dropped her as a contributor and she described the incident as a mistake she “will forever regret.”
