Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband were caught on camera sharing a smooch on Wednesday — through gauzy mask filters, despite the fact that both are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
According to Fox News, Harris and her spouse, Doug Emhoff, were leaving Joint Base Andrews when they produced the cringe-inducing scene. It’s one of the latest — and most extreme — examples yet recorded of the COVID theater craze that is sweeping the Democratic Party.
Mixed mask messaging
Political leaders from Harris to President Joe Biden have made a point of conspicuous mask-wearing despite getting the shot — in some cases directly contradicting advice from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) — leading to some absurd scenes.
According to the federal government, fully vaccinated Americans can safely go about outdoors without a mask, making the choice of Harris and her husband to wear them on the tarmac simply baffling — to say nothing of the awkward kiss.

While absurd, it’s merely the latest case in a trend of top Democrats treating masks like tokens of partisan loyalty, science and common sense be damned.
Last week, Biden wore a mask to an outdoor event where he announced that vaccinated Americans no longer have to wear a mask outdoors, as the New York Post noted. And at Biden’s first speech to Congress last week, a masked audience of distant lawmakers put on a funereal display that was heavily criticized.
COVID theater leaves many frustrated
Biden has called mask-wearing a “patriotic duty,” but the theatrical approach he and many in his party have taken has left many struggling to take him seriously.
As amusing as it might all be, critics say that Democrats are sending confusing and discouraging messages as health authorities tout the vaccine as the key to getting back to normal life.
Although millions of Americans have been vaccinated, leaving many to hope that the end of the nightmare is approaching, Biden and Harris are acting as if the pandemic will never end.
After more than a year of painful isolation in which people were unable to hold hands with loved ones drawing their finals breaths, what kind of message does this send? That even with the vaccine, it isn’t safe for a husband and wife to kiss?
At some point, you have to wonder if scenes like these are calculated to demoralize the public. It’s manipulative, unscientific, and frankly, inhuman.
