The recent deadly conflict between pro-Palestine Hamas terrorists and Israel was so terribly one-sided in most of the corporate mainstream media that even some high-profile liberal commentators felt that they had to speak up.
According to the Washington Examiner, one of those liberals included comedian and talk show host Bill Maher, who slammed the media during a recent episode of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” expressing concerns that nobody in the “liberal media” seemed willing to defend Israel’s response to the attacks by Hamas terrorists, which included thousands of rockets fired at major Israeli cities.
Maher holds nothing back
It’s not unusual for Maher to sometimes take a viewpoint opposite of his pals in the liberal media world, but his take on the conflict in Israel was especially blunt.
“One of the frustrations I had, while I was off, is that I was watching this war go on in Israel … and it was frustrating to me because there was no one on liberal media to defend Israel, really,” Maher said, referencing recent time away from the show due to contracting a case of COVID-19.
“We’ve become this country now that we’re kind of one-sided on this issue,” he added, a statement that rang true given the coverage of the event by outlets like CNN and MSNBC that attempted to paint Israel in the worst possible light throughout the bloody ordeal.
Maher went on to defend the Jewish state, reminding his viewers that it existed “way before the first Muslim or Arab walked the earth.”
“The Jews were the ones who were occupied by everybody; the Romans took over at some point and then the Persians and the Byzantines and then the Ottomans. So, yes, there was colonization going on there. Beginning in the 19th century, they started to return to Palestine, which was never an Arab country. There was never a country called Palestine that was a distinct Arab country,” he added.
“Possible war crimes”
Maher also invited New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof to debate the issue, as most of the Times’ coverage of the conflict was similar in nature to left-leaning cable news outlets, as usual. Kristof argued that Israel could be responsible for “possible war crimes” as a result of the short-lived war.
“Well, Gaza fired 4,000 rockets into Israel. What would you say Israel should have done instead of what they did?” Maher fired back.
Kristof attempted to defend his war crime charge, claiming that Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) “did not sufficiently avoid civilian casualties,” a claim which is false, given that IDF went out of their way to announce incoming attacks prior to launching in an attempt to drastically decrease the chances of civilians becoming collateral damage.
Maher reminded Kristof that Hamas terrorists often use civilian structures as shielding, including placing their rocket encampments in schools and churches as cover — a tactic they’ve used in all recent conflicts between the two factions. “That’s their strategy,” Maher argued.
While most of the mainstream media want you to believe that Israel is an evil, warring empire that was in the wrong, it’s certainly telling when someone like Maher feels the need to speak out and remind people why Israel was literally forced to do what they had to do to protect its citizens.
