Trump slams Cheney: “Warmongering fool”

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) recently suggested that she is considering running for the U.S. presidency in 2024, and she also took another shot at former President Donald Trump.

Trump, Breitbart reports, just responded to Cheney in a big way, stating that Cheney is just “looking for a way out” of her dommed Congressional race.

“Warmongering fool”

Trump’s comments about Cheney came in a statement that his office released on Tuesday.

“Liz Cheney is polling sooo low in Wyoming, and has sooo little support, even from the Wyoming Republican Party, that she is looking for a way out of her Congressional race,” Trump said. “Based on all polling, there is no way she can win.”

Accordingly, Trump predicted that Cheney will try to “save face” by being “either be yet another lobbyist of or maybe embarrass her family by running for President.”

“This warmongering fool wants to stay in the Middle East and Afghanistan for another 19 years, but doesn’t consider the big picture—Russia and China!” Trump added.

Background

The bad blood between Trump and Cheney comes as a result of the January 6th Capitol riot. Cheney was one of the few congressional Republicans who publicly blamed Trump for what happened, and, despite much criticism, Cheney has maintained that position.

Recently, Cheney told the New York Post that, in terms of running for the presidency in 2024, she is “not ruling anything in or out,” adding that she’s “been here a long time.”

In the interview, Cheney also said that she thinks that those Republicans who “led the charge” ought to be disqualified from running in 2024.

“I do think that some of our candidates who led the charge, particularly the senators who led the unconstitutional charge, not to certify the election, you know, in my view, that’s disqualifying,” she said. “I think that adherence to the Constitution, adherence to your oath has got to be at the top of the list. So, I think, you know that certainly will be a factor that I’m looking at and I think a number of voters will be looking at as they decide about ’24.”

This week, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) seemed to suggest that his support of Cheney is dwindling by refusing to answer whether Cheney is a “good fit” for House GOP leadership.

Reports also indicate that Trump will at some point endorse a candidate who will run against Cheney in her next congressional race. It appears that her days in Congress could be numbered.
