Nursing home killer Andrew Cuomo has been given a key coronavirus-related role in the Biden administration
A recent report from RealClearPolitics indicates that President Joe Biden has embattled New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) leading the White House’s weekly coronavirus conference calls with governors from across the country.
Cuomo apparently was given this role because he is the chairman of the National Governors Association. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has tried to claim that such a change as this was needed after the Trump administration’s approach.
Others, however, are questioning whether Cuomo is really the right person for the job.
Background
In recent months, Cuomo has become the subject of at least two different scandals, a coronavirus-related scandal and a sexual harassment scandal.
Regarding the coronavirus scandal, Cuomo and his administration stand accused of underreporting to the Department of Justice (DOJ) the true number of coronavirus-related nursing home deaths. Cuomo’s administration is said to have underreported such deaths by thousands.
The most recent report on this coronavirus scandal comes from The New York Times. The outlet reports that Cuomo’s senior aides deliberately tried to prevent New York state health officials from releasing the state’s true nursing home death toll.
On top of this, according to previous reports, it is believed that Cuomo’s policy of sending to nursing homes COVID-19-positive patients could have contributed to the spread of the illness among the elderly, the most vulnerable demographic.
Cuomo is currently facing an investigation being led by the New York State Assembly. Thus far, however, he has managed to survive calls for his resignation, and as RealClearPolitics reports, he is now even leading the White House’s coronavirus calls with governors nationwide.
Biden and Harris, once again, MIA
The backstory, here, is that Cuomo is running these calls because neither President Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris is.
Psaki recently admitted that not only is Biden not participating in these coronavirus-related conference calls with governors but he has never participated in such calls.
“I will say that the intention was never for the weekly call, the COVID call that is led by our COVID coordinator, to be a part, for the President to be leading that call,” Psaki said.
This, of course, stands in stark contrast to the previous administration, where former President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence were routine participants in such calls.
