‘It’s imperative’: GOP senators seek answers related to Biden family’s foreign business ties

Even after his inauguration, President Joe Biden continues to face several unresolved questions regarding the extent of his family’s foreign business interests.

For their part, U.S. Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) are demanding answers from the Biden administration — specifically regarding Hunter Biden’s exposure to Chinese counterintelligence threats.

“Spy chief of China”

According to the Washington Examiner, the Republican lawmakers are digging deeper in light of uncovered evidence they say revealed “millions of dollars in questions transactions” between the president’s son and Chinese business associates with close ties to that country’s communist regime.

Hunter Biden allegedly maintained a close friendship with Ye Jianming, a businessman linked to the Chinese military who has subsequently vanished. The two men spoke “regularly,” according to Grassley and Johnson, and Biden was the first guest at Ye’s apartment.

Furthermore, Biden reportedly provided legal services valued at $1 million for another Chinese associate, Patrick Ho, who was convicted on charges of international money laundering and bribery in 2018. Reports also indicate the first person Ho contacted after his arrest was James Biden, the president’s brother.

At one time, Ho was the target of a Foreign Intelligence Service Act warrant, which the senators say Hunter Biden must have known about since a leaked recording revealed his conversation about a reporter’s interest in his work defending the Chinese businessman he called “the f***ing spy chief of China.”

Evidence cited by the two senators included a bank account Hunter Biden opened with Gongwen Dong, which allegedly allowed the Bidens to go on a six-figure “spending spree.”

“Relating to the Biden family”

In a letter to the Department of Justice and the intelligence community, Grassley and Johnson asked for all relevant FISA records to be turned over before April 14.

“It’s imperative that Congress better understand the relationship Ye Jianming, Gongwen Dong, and Patrick Ho had between and among themselves, with the communist Chinese government, CEFC China Energy, and their activities in the United States, including those relating to the Biden family,” they wrote.

Although Democratic Party operatives have long dismissed inquiries into Hunter Biden’s foreign business ties as a Russian propaganda campaign, damning emails from a computer reportedly abandoned by Biden suggest his father was aware of dubious business ties in China and Ukraine.

The younger Biden’s controversial behavior extended beyond foreign entanglements, including recent reports that he possibly committed a felony by lying on a form when purchasing a firearm. Biden also confirmed late last year that he was the subject of an investigation into his “tax affairs.”

The extent of the first family’s potential exposure to counterintelligence threats remains murky, but officials like Grassley and Johnson are determined to find out as much as possible.
