Last week, reports from Fox News and elsewhere unveiled allegations that President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, may have violated federal law by lying about his drug habits when purchasing a firearm in 2018. Now, however, Hunter isn’t the only member of the Biden family facing a scandal.
According to the Washington Examiner, one of the president’s two dogs bit a federal employee at the White House this week, the second time such an incident has occurred since Biden took over the Oval Office.
“Still adjusting”
According to the Examiner, 3-year-old Major, one of Biden’s two German shepherds, bit a National Park Service employee on the White House South Lawn on Monday.
“Major is still adjusting to his new surroundings and he nipped someone while on a walk,” the White House said in a statement, according to the Examiner.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the individual was seen by WHMU [the White House Medical Unit] and then returned to work without injury,” the statement added.
A second incident
The announcement comes just weeks after Major was said to have bitten an unnamed member of the White House security team.
According to the Examiner, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki explained on March 9 that Major “was surprised by an unfamiliar person and reacted in a way that resulted in a minor injury to the individual, which was handled by the White House medical unit with no further treatment needed.”
Both Major and fellow first dog Champ Biden were subsequently taken back to Delaware by the first lady for what Psaki characterized as a “previously planned” trip. Champ, for his part, has thus far managed to steer clear of controversy.
Questions remain
While it remains unclear what sort of repercussions Major Biden may face, Republicans aren’t backing down from calls for accountability for the president’s human son regarding his 2018 firearm purchase.
Fox News reports that GOP Sens. Chuck Grassley (IA) and Ron Johnson (WI) demanded in a recent letter to the FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies to know if government officials intervened on Hunter Biden’s behalf after his then-girlfriend put the gun in a supermarket trash can.
“After the firearm was discarded, the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) allegedly became involved and sought paperwork from the Federal Firearm Licensee (FFL) connected to Hunter Biden’s purchase of the firearm,” the senators wrote. “The owner of the gun store reportedly ‘refused to supply the paperwork’ to the USSS agents due to suspicion that ‘the Secret Service officers wanted to hide Hunter’s ownership of the missing gun in case it were to be involved in a crime.'”
For now, it seems there are more questions than answers when it comes to the Biden family. Is this really how “Uncle Joe” wanted to start his presidency?
