Biden leaves mask behind after speech touting infrastructure plan

President Joe Biden has frequently called on the American people to “mask up” and keep their distance from one another in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

As he once again displayed during an event at the White House this week, however, the president keeps forgetting the rules he wants the rest of the country to follow.

“Which I’m not doing”

According to Breitbart, Biden was touting the supposed benefits of a multi-trillion dollar infrastructure plan on Wednesday and left his mask at the podium after he finished. It was just the latest in a string of similar incidents.

On his first day in office, Biden appeared without a mask while at the Lincoln Memorial. Notably, it was the same day that he signed an executive order requiring individuals to wear face masks while on federal property.

At another event this week, the president dispensed COVID-19 wisdom when he realized he was in clear violation, attempting to play the situation off as a joke.

“Keep wearing a mask, wash the hands, and socially distance, which I’m not doing,” he reportedly said.

Of course, many critics believe the real joke is his continual drumbeat emphasizing the importance of face masks. After all, he has been fully vaccinated and therefore does not present the risk of COVID-19 spread that unvaccinated Americans pose.

“COVID-19 has not disappeared”

As U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) asserted in remarks to Biden health adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci, the entire charade amounts to political “theater.” While Biden has apparently bought into the narrative, much of the country is no longer playing along.

Multiple Republican-led states have rolled back mask mandates and other pandemic-related restrictions, prompting Biden to call them out for “reckless behavior” in a pointed statement last week.

“Our work is far from over,” he said at the time, according to CNBC. “The war against COVID-19 is far from won.”

Conversely, Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott trusts individuals to make safe decisions on their own. In a statement more than a month ago, he declared: “Make no mistake, COVID-19 has not disappeared, but it is clear from the recoveries, vaccinations, reduced hospitalizations, and safe practices that Texans are using that state mandates are no longer needed.”

Based on public displays including his recent appearance without a face mask, it appears that the president is playing a part to which even he is not fully committed.
