Trump throws support behind Arkansas Sen John Boozman

Donald Trump has once again shown that he intends to remain an active and powerful force in the Republican Party. On Monday, the former president thew his support behind Sen. John Boozman (R-AK) for reelection.

“Senator John Boozman is a great fighter for the people of Arkansas,” Trump said in a statement Monday, Fox News reported.

“He is tough on Crime, strong on the Border, a great supporter of our Military and our Vets, and fights for our farmers every day,” Trump continued. “He supports our Second Amendment and has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

Boozman responds

Boozman replied in a tweet on Monday that he was “grateful to have Pres. Trump’s endorsement for my re-election to the Senate.”

“We worked together to lower taxes, roll back regulations, secure our border, defend our Second Amendment rights and Protect Life,” the Republican lawmaker added.

Trump’s endorsement and praise for the incumbent senator came just days after Boozman announced his plans to pursue another term in office. “Now more than ever Arkansas needs strong, conservative leadership in Washington,” he tweeted Saturday. “I will remain a tireless champion for the Natural State.”

Boozman has also been endorsed by former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and fellow Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton (R), Fox News reported.

Former president shows up naysayers

Trump’s endorsement comes despite predictions made by some earlier this year that he would likely have little influence within the GOP going forward.

Last month, former South Carolina governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley told Politico that she didn’t believe Trump would “be in the picture” as far as the party’s future was concerned, stating, “He’s fallen so far.”

Despite that assessment, Trump was welcomed with cheers and applause at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida in February.

Trump easily won a straw poll at the conference that asked attendees who they would like to see as the GOP’s presidential nominee in 2024, garnering some 55% of the vote.

He also gave a speech that included a promise to back primary challenges to Republican politicians that he said stand in the way of an America first agenda.
