Trump says he will back primary challenge against Lisa Murkowski

Donald Trump faced constant opposition from Democrats and members of the mainstream media during his four years as president.

While wildly popular among many Republican voters, the former president also picked up a number of enemies within his own party. Despite being out of office, Trump is making it clear that he will use his influence to go after those Republicans who don’t hold to the same America first values he promoted.

In a statement released to Politico on Saturday, Trump unveiled plans to back a primary challenge against Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).

Trump attacks Murkowski

“I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski,” Trump said.

“She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be — in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator,” he announced.

Trump particularly took issue with Murkowski’s decision to back President Joe Biden’s nomination of Rep. Deb Haaland (D-NM) to serve as interior secretary.

“Her vote to advance radical left democrat Deb Haaland for Secretary of the Interior is yet another example of Murkowski not standing up for Alaska,” he continued.

According to Politico, Murkowski said that Haaland’s history of opposing the oil industry had to be balanced against her Native American heritage.

Republican targets

This is not the first time in recent days that Trump has made clear his intention to purge the GOP of those who he regards as being a hindrance.

During his speech in February at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida, Trump fired off a list of Republican lawmakers who need to go.

“The Democrats don’t have grandstanders like Mitt Romney, little Ben Sasse, Richard Burr, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Pat Toomey, and in the House, Tom Rice, South Carolina, Adam Kinzinger, Dan Newhouse, Anthony Gonzalez,” the former president said.

“Fred Upton, Jaime Herrera Beutler, Peter Meyer, John Katko, David Valadao. And of course the warmonger, a person that loves seeing our troops fighting, Liz Cheney,” he continued.
