Troops, fencing in DC is an attempt to distract from Pelosi’s security failure on Jan 6, Alabama lawmaker says

The Capitol complex in Washington, D.C., under the direction of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), has come to resemble an armed camp in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, adorned with razorwire-topped fencing and patrolled by thousands of National Guard troops.

Rep. Jerry Carl (R-AL) thinks all of this heavy-handed security is a purposeful distraction from Pelosi’s prior failure to properly secure the Capitol complex ahead of the Jan. 6 protests that spiraled out of control, Breitbart reported.

The congressman noted that it was Pelosi, as Speaker of the House, who bears the ultimate responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the complex, including ensuring there is an appropriate level of security.

Pelosi “ultimately responsible” for Capitol security

Carl’s remarks came during a recent interview on “The Jeff Poor Show” on Alabama’s FM Talk 1065, when he said, “I think January 6 — Pelosi is trying to cover up her involvement in that.”

“She should have played a larger role because she is ultimately responsible for that security,” the congressman continued. “I think she’s trying to distract from that, so she doesn’t take any heat for it.”

“Not for a minute do I think she would encourage it. That’s not what I’m saying,” Carl said. “But I think she left security very, very weak for obvious reasons. I think a lot of this stuff is pure distraction. I think she’s pulling away.”

Playing it up for political purposes

Lifezette reported that Carl went on to say that Pelosi’s post-riot actions seemed geared toward playing to her base of support, be it the Hollywood elite or leftist institutions, even though those groups have “always supported her” no matter what she has done.

“You know, hindsight is 20/20. I don’t want to blame anybody,” Carl said. “The people that came here to do harm — we need to take care of that. We need to prosecute that. We need to make sure they’re accountable.”

“But you know, when they talk about insurgents of people — so many of those were sightseers. That’s what these reports are bringing out,” he continued. “There may have been 50 or 100 characters, but everybody else was just sightseers. They followed the crowd, the group effort of just moving in one direction.”

Capitol occupation costing taxpayers dearly

“We should have done a much better job,” Carl said. “But the way Nancy Pelosi responds — we’re spending $2 million a week for a high fence with razor wire with our National Guard, which we stop and talk — everyone tries making a point of thanking them for their service.”

“You know, we take them from their families, from their jobs. I don’t know what it’s costing us outside of D.C. But here, it costs us $2 million a week for that fence to be up and those guardsmen to be on the frontlines,” the congressman added.

Pelosi has transformed the nation’s Capitol into a militarized zone in what increasingly appears to be a dramatic and politicized overreaction to a horrifying, yet one-off event, and it is time for the costly charade to end.
