Leading up to last year’s November election, Democrats promoted mail-in ballots as necessary because of the coronavirus pandemic and rejected the possibility that mass mail-ins make it easier to commit voter fraud.
However, another case of mail-in voter fraud has been exposed, this time in Paterson, New Jersey, where a pair of municipal politicians have been indicted by a state grand jury over allegations that they rigged a special election in May 2020, The Daily Caller reported.
State Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced that his office was tipped off by the U.S Postal Inspection Service that “numerous” mail-in ballots were found stuffed into a Haledon, New Jersey mailbox while another mailbox located in Paterson was found to contain hundreds more.
Charges filed
The discoveries led to charges being filed in June against the special election’s winner, Paterson City Councilman Alex Mendez, and Paterson City Councilman Michael Jackson.
Two other individuals were also charged in the criminal complaint.
Mendez is alleged to have collected multiple mail-in ballots from residents that were then brought to the Passaic County Board of Elections “without information identifying the bearer, in violation of state election laws.”
Mendez also allegedly attempted to register at least one person to vote despite knowing that the individual was not eligible to cast a ballot in the district.
Meanwhile, Jackson has been accused of approaching voters and was discovered to have three ballots in his possession that belonged to others.
“We will hold them accountable”
“These indictments are an important step in our prosecution of these two sitting city councilmen on charges including second-degree election fraud,” Grewal said in a press release.
“As we have seen all too clearly in recent months, public confidence in our democratic process is critical. If anyone tampers with an election in New Jersey and threatens that process, we will hold them accountable,” he added.
The press release also quoted the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity & Accountability Director Thomas Eicher who said, “New Jersey’s criminal code includes various indictable offenses related to election fraud and, in particular, fraud involving mail-in ballots.”
“With these indictments, we’re using those laws for their intended purpose — defending free and fair elections by prosecuting those accused of seeking to undermine them,” he added.
