There are certainly people flooding America’s southern border who are desperate victims seeking a better life.
Nevertheless, there are also hundreds of victimizers — traffickers, drug cartel members, and other violent criminals looking to come illegally into the United States.
According to the head of Border Patrol’s operations for the Rio Grande Valley, 861 illegal immigrants with criminal records have been apprehended in the region, the Washington Examiner reported.
Among that number were reportedly 92 sex offenders and another 63 with ties to gangs. At least one is a convicted murderer.
Democratic congressman alarmed
Chief Patrol Agent Brian Hastings tweeted last week, “Within the copious amounts of groups being encountered in #RGV, a Salvadoran man with a prior conviction for murder was discovered. FYTD RGV agents have arrested over 861 criminal aliens, to include 63 gang members and 92 sex offenders.”
Even some Democrats are starting to be alarmed by the number of immigrants coming across the border. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), who represents a border district in Texas, expressed shock over how many migrants have been released without being giving a notice to appear in immigration court.
“I thought it was 150 people that they have released without a Notice to Appear, but it actually is getting now closer to 2,000 people they released,” Cuellar told the Examiner.
He continued, “I told the person, ‘Repeat it one more time.’ Two thousand. I thought it was bad when it was 150, but it’s now closer to 2,000 people.”
Government can’t handle surge
Earlier in March, an official within the Biden administration said the flow of unaccompanied minors has stretched government resources beyond their capacity, according to the Examiner.
“We are not in a place where we’re going to be able to meet the demand that we are seeing,” the official said.
“Every day, we are bringing new beds online, but it takes a lot of time, unfortunately, in terms of our licensed care-provider network. We are aggressively adding hundreds of beds by the week to our care provider network,” he added.
On Monday, Fox News broadcast video footage taken by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) showing the inside of an overcrowded migrant facility. In the clip, an official could be seen trying to prevent Cruz from filming.
