Harris silent on border even after being tasked with addressing the problem

Earlier this month, President Joe Biden announced that Vice President Kamala Harris had been assigned to address the migrant wave at America’s southern border.

Harris has had little to say about the situation, however, and a report from Fox News suggests that she may have other things on her mind.

Harris has specifically been tasked with coordinating efforts with Mexico as well as Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador — the three nations where most migrants originate. “When she speaks, she speaks for me,” Biden said of Harris’ assignment.

However, Fox News contributor Angelica Stabile noted Sunday that the vice president still has yet to actually make a trip to the border.

Harris compared ICE to the KKK

It’s not clear when or even if she has any plans to go. “Harris had no events this past weekend and no mention of border-related activity,” Stabile noted.

Stabile also cited a CNN report that said Harris is “frustrated” with the pace of renovations at her mansion — something that forced “her and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff to temporarily stay at Blair House, the president’s official guest quarters.”

The vice president is a polarizing choice to lead any border initiative given that she compared Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to the Ku Klux Klan, Fox News reported.

“Are you aware of the perception of many about how the power and the discretion at ICE is being used to enforce the laws and do you see any parallels [with the KKK]?” she asked then ICE Acting Director Ronald Vitiello during a 2018 hearing.

“Are you aware that there is a perception that ICE is administering its power in a way that is causing fear and intimidation, particularly among immigrants and specifically among immigrants coming from Mexico and Central America?” she went on.

Decriminalize illegal crossings

What’s more, Harris was among those Democratic presidential primary candidates who said during a debate that she would decriminalize illegal border crossing, a position that she later backtracked on, according to Fox.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), in contrast to the vice president, actually has visited a migrant holding facility, and he tweeted out images last week showing migrants being kept in crowded conditions.

“These are the pictures the Biden administration doesn’t want the American people to see,” he said. “This is why they won’t allow the press.”
