A former pro wrestler is throwing his hat in the political ring with a bid for office in an upcoming special election.
Republican Dan Rodimer, also known as “Big Dan,” released a colorful rodeo-themed video this week in his campaign to represent the 6th District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. In it, he railed against the “bulls***” of progressive Democrats — particularly House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“A boot right in her socialist platform”
The candidate’s ad included his desire to “Make America Texas Again” and stop the “communists” in office on Capitol Hill.
“I know how to handle Nancy Pelosi and stop her bulls***,” Rodimer said. “I’ll put a boot right in her socialist platform.”
The congressional hopeful is one of more than 20 candidates in the May 1 special election. Susan Wright, the widow of Ron Wright, who held the office until he died of COVID-19 in February, is among the other candidates vying to fill the seat.
Rodimer, who jumped into the race just before the deadline, continued his rowdy recitation of campaign promises by vowing to “kick some left-wing ass” if elected. The candidate can be seen riding atop a bull named “Nancy Pelosi.”
“In Texas, we’re free,” he said. “They hate Texas, and they hate our way of life.”
Rodimer’s background
A New Jersey native, Rodimer previously ran for Congress in Nevada as a resident of Las Vegas. He narrowly lost that race to Democratic challenger Susie Lee.
During his prior bid, critics slammed him over past allegations of domestic violence toward his current wife and assaulting people in barfights. His campaign has also led to accusations of carpetbagging.
In his defense, the candidate has said he did not move to the district with the sole intention of running for office. Instead, he claims to have previously resided in Galveston, Texas, which is hundreds of miles from the 6th District, and moved to Fort Worth recently.
As for the relatively recent move to Texas, Rodimer said he was merely interested in bringing his family to a “constitutional-friendly state.” Before entering politics, Rodimer was a WWE wrestler from 2004 to 2007.
The candidate announced his plans to visit the border to discuss plans to stop the immigration crisis. His website offers some details about his position, stating: “Rodimer believes immigrants are an integral part of the fabric of America, but out of control immigration policies hurt legal immigrants and everyday Americans.”
