Flashback: Before Biden’s admin snubbed Dr. Seuss, Kamala Harris celebrated the famed children’s author

The legendary children’s author Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, was in the news this week after his estate decided to pull six of his books from print over allegations that they contained “racist imagery.” But before those on the left were trying to cancel Dr. Seuss, one of the nation’s biggest progressive stars was celebrating the late writer’s longstanding legacy.

A new report from Breitbart reveals that now-Vice President Kamala Harris penned a tweet celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday back in 2017.

“Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!” Harris tweeted on March 2, 2017, according to Breitbart.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go,” she quoted.

Psaki blames DOE for Seuss snub

The flashback from Breitbart comes as the Biden administration is taking flak after apparently snubbing the late children’s author in a proclamation on Read Across America Day.

The New York Post reported Tuesday that the Biden administration didn’t mention Seuss in its declaration, though many other presidents have done so “enthusiastically,” according to Breitbart.

Pressed by reporters about the snub, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the decision came from the Department of Education (DOE).

“I think it is important that children of all backgrounds see themselves in the children’s books that they read, but I would point you to the Department of Education for any more details on the writing of the proclamation,” Psaki said, according to the New York Post.

Cancel culture strikes again

Dr. Seuss Enterprises had announced earlier that day that Seuss books including If I Ran the Zoo, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, McElligot’s Pool, On Beyond Zebra!, Scrambled Eggs Super!, and The Cat’s Quizzer would be pulled from print, the Post noted.

While the move prompted many on the left to amplify their opposition to Seuss and some of his material, conservatives have taken a far more supportive tone.

On Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) tweeted a happy birthday message to the late author that included an image depicting “The Cat in the Hat,” considered by many to be the author’s most well-known character.

In a subsequent tweet, Cruz blasted the removal of Seuss’ name from the president’s annual Read Across America Day proclamation, calling the move “utterly asinine.”
