Trump nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for Middle East peace achievements

Former President Donald Trump has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his incredible success on helping normalize relations between Israel and several other nations in the Middle East.

According to Euronews, Trump received the nomination on Monday from Jaak Madison, an Estonian politician who serves in the European Parliament.

“In the last 30 years, Donald Trump is the first president of the United States, who during his tenure, has not started a war,” Madison wrote in a Facebook post.

“In addition, several peace agreements have been made under his leadership in the Middle East, which has helped ensure stability in the region and peace,” the European lawmaker added.

Abraham Accords

Elected to the European Parliament in 2014, Madison is a member of the Estonian Conservative People’s Party.

His comments regarding Middle East peace agreements were a reference to the “Abraham Accords,” an initiative under which the United States encouraged reconciliation between Israel and its neighbors, including the the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

“We encourage efforts to promote interfaith and intercultural dialogue to advance a culture of peace among the three Abrahamic religions and all humanity,” a statement on the State Department’s website explains.

“We believe that the best way to address challenges is through cooperation and dialogue and that developing friendly relations among States advances the interests of lasting peace in the Middle East and around the world,” it continues.

Kushner receives nomination

A key figure in the Trump administration who was responsible for the success of the Abraham Accords is Trump’s son-in-law and former senior White House advisor Jared Kushner.

Kushner and former aide Avi Berkowitz also received Peace Prize nominations from constitutional lawyer and attorney Alan Dershowitz, Fox News reported.

“The Nobel Peace Prize is not for popularity. Nor is it an assessment of what the international community may think of those who helped bring about peace,” Dershowitz said of the nomination.

“It is an award for fulfilling the daunting criteria set out by Alfred Nobel in his will. These men, and the Abraham accords, they helped produce, meet these criteria better than any other person or groups eligible for the award,” he added.
