Trump joins critics mocking Biden over claim that US had no COVID-19 vaccine before he took office

President Joe Biden has a lengthy history of making baffling gaffes, but one recent claim is raising eyebrows for its obvious inaccuracy.

According to Fox News, the president claimed during a recent CNN town hall event that no COVID-19 vaccine existed prior to his inauguration — despite the fact that he received a shot about a month before that date.

“Before he came into office”

Former President Donald Trump was among the many critics who took issue with Biden’s claim, speculating that it could be evidence of his successor’s cognitive decline.

“I saw that he said there was no vaccine when he came into office, and yet he got a shot before he came into office,” Trump told Newsmax TV host Greg Kelly during an interview on Wednesday.

The ex-president went on to note that his administration announced the development of an effective inoculation “in early November” — long after significant progress toward that end had been made

“We were giving millions of shots and millions of doses,” Trump said of the situation ahead of Biden’s inauguration.

In response to the current president’s bewildering comment, he added: “So he’s either not telling a truth, or he’s mentally gone — one or the other. Could he be joking? Because, frankly, that was a very dumb statement.”

“Getting lit up”

Apparently taking some satisfaction in seeing even left-wing figures call Biden out on the issue, Trump remarked that his successor is “being killed on that whole thing,” adding that “even the haters” are acknowledging that he was still president when the vaccine was announced.

“He is getting lit up on that one,” Trump said of Biden.

Of course, there is no shortage of Biden gaffes or misstatements, including within the recent town hall. Another controversial comment came when he seemed to suggest minority groups are being vaccinated at lower rates than white Americans because they struggle to use the internet.

“Not everybody in the community — in the Hispanic and the African American community, particularly in rural areas that are distant and/or inner-city districts — know how to use — know how to get online to determine how to get in line for that COVID vaccination at the Walgreens or at the particular store,” Biden alleged.

In a separate event earlier this month, the president ruffled some feathers by asking an Iowa nurse if she was a college freshman, going on to conclude that “doctors let you live, nurses make you want to live.”
