Kamala Harris faces criticism for wearing outfit by designer accused of racism: Report

Vice President Kamala Harris is taking flak from critics who charge that an outfit she wore while getting vaccinated for COVID-19 was designed by a brand with a history of “issues with race,” Breitbart reported Thursday.

The outfit, which was said to have included a blazer costing more than $2,300, was reportedly designed by Dolce & Gabbana.

Take a look:

Fashion and activism don’t always mix

At the crux of the issue are allegations that Dolce & Gabbana, sometimes shortened to D&G, has designed a number of controversial products and that the brand’s leaders had made offensive statements.

Criticism of the brand isn’t new, but in the eyes of Vittoria Vignone, creator of a website called Kamala’s Closet, it’s shocking that the controversy seemed to be overlooked by the vice president and her team.

“It’s possible [that Harris wasn’t aware of the controversy] but also incredibly sloppy,” Vigone told a local news outlet, according to Breitbart.

“They could and should be better, especially after the triumphs of last week,” she added, referring to recent executive action by the Biden administration on the issue of racial justice. “The timing of this so soon after her inaugural choices championed lesser-known American designers of color is awful no matter how you look at it.”

Vigone also reportedly told the outlet that Harris “and her team should care about the impact her choices have. For example, she could lift up a smaller or more affordable business instantly,” Vigone remarked.

The Biden approach to civil rights

As Harris takes heat over his fashion choices, the Biden administration is indeed moving full steam ahead on orders designed to “advanc[e] equity for all, including people of color and others who have been historically underserved, marginalized, and adversely affected by persistent poverty and inequality.”

“Affirmatively advancing equity, civil rights, racial justice, and equal opportunity is the responsibility of the whole of our Government,” President Joe Biden wrote in an order signed on his first day in office.

It looks like some already believe Harris isn’t living up to that message.
