The president of the international organization founded by far-left billionaire George Soros is stepping down.
Patrick Gaspard announced on Friday that he will be resigning as the head of the Open Society Foundations, reportedly to take a position in former Vice President Joe Biden’s administration, according to Axios.
“Fundamental social change doesn’t customarily occur in a revolutionary moment. Instead, what is needed is the partnership of activists, government, and the nonprofit sector, collaborating over time and space in unity and solidarity,” Gaspard said in a statement.
He continued, “This is what I worked to do at Open Society. My commitment now will be to re-enter the world of politics and ideas, where I can continue the struggle against oppression everywhere.”
Soros praises Gaspard
Soros offered words of praise for his foundation’s soon to be former president, Fox News reported.
The leftist mega-donor lauded Gaspard as a “champion of all rights: whether for workers, for women, or for underserved groups.”
“His dedication to those challenging power is precisely why I invited Patrick to join Open Society,” Soros said. “I have great admiration for the way he led the Foundations in a world beset by illiberalism, and I applaud him.”
According to Open Society Foundations, Gaspard started his career as a union organizer in New York City. “Gaspard was the executive vice president and political director for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 1199, and political director for the national SEIU. He also served as a senior aide to former New York City mayor David Dinkins,” his biography states.
It continues, “He is proudest of his contributions to campaigns to end police brutality, mobilizations to increase access to affordable health care, and his efforts to increase dignity for working families.”
Labor Department
Gaspard also served during former President Barack Obama’s second term as United States ambassador to South Africa from 2013 to 2016.
According to Axios’ report, Gaspard is possibly under consideration to head the Department of Labor.
If Gaspard is selected as a nominee for the administration, he will join a list of far-left picks from Biden, including Office of Management and Budget nominee Neera Tanden and the nominee to head the HHS, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra.
