Schumer predicts Trump will give Barr the boot: ‘I guess he is the next one to be fired’

Since he was confirmed to the role of attorney general in early 2019, Bill Barr has been the target of criticism from those on the left who claim that he’s doing the president’s bidding. But according to one top Democrat, Barr’s relationship with President Donald Trump may have been tarnished, and his tenure as head of the Justice Department may soon be coming to an end.

According to The Washington Times, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Tuesday that he surmises Barr will be the next official fired by Trump after the AG revealed in an interview published by the Associated Press earlier that day that his Department of Justice (DOJ) had found no evidence of widespread voter fraud.

“I guess he is the next one to be fired since he now too says there is no fraud,” Schumer told reporters, according to the Times. “Trump seems to fire anyone in that regard.”

“Where are they?”

According to the AP, Barr had said in an interview that the DOJ has yet to uncover fraud “on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election.”

“There’s been one assertion that would be systemic fraud and that would be the claim that machines were programmed essentially to skew the election results,” Barr explained, according to the AP.

“And the [Department of Homeland Security] and DOJ have looked into that, and so far, we haven’t seen anything to substantiate that,” the attorney general added.

Just days earlier, Trump had expressed frustration over Barr’s apparent lack of presence on the election fraud front.

“You would think if you’re in the FBI or Department of Justice, this is the biggest thing you could be looking at,” the president told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday, according to Fox. “Where are they? I’ve not seen anything.”

“We have many witnesses”

It was a sentiment echoed by the president’s lawyers in a statement issued after Barr’s interview was made public. According to the New York Post, Trump attorneys Jenna Ellis and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said they have plenty of evidence that fraud tainted the results of the 2020 elections, even if the DOJ isn’t looking into it.

“We have many witnesses swearing under oath they saw crimes being committed in connection with voter fraud,” the pair insisted. “As far as we know, not a single one has been interviewed by the DOJ.”

According to the Post, Trump’s lawyers also claimed the DOJ “hasn’t audited any voting machines or used their subpoena powers to determine the truth.”

“[W]ith the greatest respect to the Attorney General, his opinion appears to be without any knowledge or investigation of the substantial irregularities and evidence of systemic fraud,” they said. And though Barr apparently won’t be joining them, Ellis and Giuliani promised that they will “continue [their] pursuit of the truth through the judicial system and state legislatures,” the Post reported.
