Vice President Mike Pence gave a pep talk to a crowd of young conservatives in Florida on Tuesday, imploring them to “stay in the fight” for liberty — even if the Democrats win this round and President Donald Trump is forced to leave the White House.
The vice president sought to project optimism at a Turning Point USA event in Palm Beach. “Stay in the fight in our election. Stay in the fight in Georgia’s election. Stay in the fight every day that follows,” Pence said.
Fighting for votes
The vice president’s speech came amid ongoing challenges to the 2020 election from Pence’s boss, President Donald Trump, which he mentioned briefly, saying all “legal” votes must be counted.
“We’re going to keep fighting until every legal vote is counted. We’re going to keep fighting until every illegal vote is thrown out,” Pence said. “We’re going to win Georgia. We’re going to save America, and we’ll never stop fighting to make America great again.”
The crowd broke into chants of “stop the steal” at one point.
Trump has claimed that the presidential election was rigged for his election rival, Joe Biden. The Electoral College recently certified Biden as the winner.
Meanwhile, control of the Senate is still up in the air with Georgia’s January 5 runoff elections just days away. Pence has campaigned for the Republican senators in a bid to keep Democrats from taking control of the chamber.
“Best days” ahead
Pence rattled off a list of Trump’s accomplishments, calling Trump the most “pro-life president in American history,” and said that the conservative movement’s best days are ahead.
Even still, he said that the “fight for freedom never ends” as he urged his audience to keep radical leftism and socialism at bay.
“We need you to stay in the fight, to be a check on what the Democrats and the radical left want to do, and what they want to undo [inaudible] all that we’ve done,” Pence said. “Our agenda is about American greatness, their agenda is about American decline.”
Trump called in to the conference the day before, where he railed against election rigging and said that he won the election in a “landslide.”
The president is reportedly rallying Republican lawmakers to challenge Biden’s putative victory at a Joint Session of Congress on January 6, which Pence will preside over.
