Maxine Waters’ daughter paid nearly a quarter million from mother’s reelection campaign

It was a good election season for Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and her family. Not only was Waters reelected — her daughter, Karen Waters, made some good money along the way.

According to Fox News, Karen Waters received about $240,000 from her mother’s reelection campaign.

FEC report

Fox News’ report follows the release of records from Waters’ campaign from the Federal Election Commission.

On one page of the records, there is a campaign payment called a “post-general” filing,” that was made to Karen Waters for more than $28,000. On another page titled “Schedule B: Itemized Disbursements,” which had been submitted earlier, several other payments that add up to more than $212,000 were listed as having been made to the congresswoman’s daughter.

Fox News reported: “The newest FEC filing shows five entries for Karen Waters: a $1,000 payment dated Oct. 23 for ‘Walker payments’; payments of $900 and $5,000, dated Oct. 30 and Nov. 2, respectively, both marked ‘GOTV’; and payments of $8,750 and $12,500, dated Nov. 6 and Nov. 17, respectively, both marked ‘Slate Mailer Management Fee.'”

Family connections

Waters’ most recent campaign isn’t the first time her daughter has received money from her mother’s political campaigns. In 2018, Waters was the subject of an ethics complaint made by the FEC regarding money that Waters raised from campaign mailers.

Breitbart reported at the time: “Water’s slate mailers have been controversial for years. The California congresswoman reportedly paid her daughter, Karen Waters, and her public relations firm Progressive Connections $750,000 since 2004 to produce sample ballots included in campaign mailers.”

And, according to Fox, “Back in 2004, the Los Angeles Times reported that various Waters family members had pocketed a total of more than $1 million over eight years from businesses and campaigns with a connection to the congresswoman.”

At the time, Waters defended herself saying, “They do their business and I do mine. We are not bad people.”

“Simply unconscionable”

Despite Waters’ own shady behavior, the longtime congresswoman recently suggested that President Donald Trump should be investigated.

She said:

What he has done in the four years that he has served as president is simply unconscionable, I think criminal in some cases. He’s placed this country in danger. And the president of the United States is supposed to be about making sure that the country is safe and secure, and he has done everything possible to undermine our democracy. I don’t think that can be overlooked.

Perhaps Waters should take a look in the mirror.
