The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency just released its yearly totals.
Despite operation disruptions caused by the coronavirus, ICE reports that it still managed to arrest over 100,000 and deport over 185,000 illegal aliens.
“Despite a year of unprecedented challenges, including the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and civil unrest, the steadfast men and women representing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continued their congressionally mandated mission to promote homeland security and public safety through the criminal and civil enforcement of federal laws,” the agency reports.
The arrest numbers
Breitbart reports that between October 1, 2019, and September 30, 2020, ICE made 103,603 illegal alien arrests.
A large percentage of these arrests – 90 percent – were not only illegal aliens but illegal aliens with either criminal convictions or pending criminal charges. 4,067 were either known or suspected gang members, including members of the MS-13 gang, and 34 were known or suspected terrorists.
In total, ICE actually made 122,233 detainers this year. Detainers are requests in which ICE asks local law enforcement to hold onto illegal aliens until a time at which they can be handed over to ICE.
The discrepancy between the detainers and the arrests is largely the result of Democrat cities that refuse to cooperate with ICE, choosing instead to free the illegal aliens back into the community.
The deportation numbers
In addition to the arrests, Breitbart separately reports that ICE, between October 1, 2019, and September 30, 2020, deported 185,884 illegal aliens.
Again, a large percentage – 64 percent or 118,949 – of those deported had either criminal convictions or pending criminal charges. This included 4,276 known or suspected gang members and 31 known or suspected terrorists.
It was suspected that the deportation numbers would be down this year as a result of the coronavirus, and they were by roughly 30 percent from the previous two years.
Looking forward
The question now is what are these numbers going to look like under a Joe Biden administration. We know that ICE has been as successful as it has been because President Trump made it a goal of his administration to try to fix America’s illegal alien problem, which, population-wise, is in the 11 to 22 million range.
Biden, however, has made it abundantly clear that he plans on going in the opposite direction, not only making it easy for illegal aliens to come in but to stay. Footing the bill along the way – both in terms of money and safety – will be the American people.
