Democratic nominee Joe Biden has a long history of public gaffes and mispronunciations, and that trend has continued even after the mainstream media proclaimed him the next president.
In fact, as he announced Xavier Becerra as his pick to head the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday, he notably struggled to read the name aloud and botched the very agency he has slated Becerra to helm.
“Joe Biden is a mess”
“I’m really proud of this group,” Biden said. “For secretary of Health and Education Services, I nominate Xavier Bacheria.”
Republican Party spokesman Steve Guest pointed out the two gaffes within the span of one sentence, concluding that “Biden doesn’t know the cabinet office or the name of the official.”

Joe Biden is a mess.
It’s Health and Human Services.
And it’s Xavier Becerra.

Long before last month’s election, Biden’s critics and even a few allies spoke openly of their concerns about the former vice president’s cognitive function.
On track to become the oldest president in America’s history, many voters have also expressed a fear that, if elected, Biden would be unlikely to complete a full four-year term in office.
“We won in those swing states”
For many on the right, such a prospect would be even more unthinkable than a Biden administration.
With his running mate, progressive U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), on deck to take over if something prevents him from finishing his term, the presidency could sit precariously close to falling into the hands of a lawmaker President Donald Trump called “more liberal than Bernie Sanders.”
As for Becerra, who replaced Harris as California’s attorney general when she was elected to the Senate, his own far-left ideology could present an issue with his confirmation by a Senate likely to still be under GOP control.
According to The New York Times, he has filed over 100 lawsuits against the Trump administration over issues including health care, immigration, and the environment.
For his part, Trump remains unwilling to merely allow Biden to assume office without a fight, telling reporters on Tuesday: “Well, we’re going to have to see who the next administration is because we won in those swing states.”
