Even after weeks of mainstream media assurance that Democratic nominee Joe Biden defeated President Donald Trump in the presidential election, the Trump re-election team continues to pursue allegations of fraud and voting irregularities in key battleground states.
The claims of fraud have led some Republicans to call for a boycott of the upcoming U.S. Senate runoff elections in Georgia, but Trump has no interest in supporting this cause, as reported by Fox News.
“We must get out and help David and Kelly”
In a tweet on Friday morning, the president reiterated his support for GOP Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in their respective bids against Democratic challengers Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in January’s race.
“No, the 2020 Election was a total scam, we won by a lot (and will hopefully turn over the fraudulent result), but we must get out and help David and Kelly, two GREAT people,” Trump tweeted.
The two remaining Senate races will ultimately determine the balance of power in the Senate for the upcoming session — and both parties are contributing significant resources to aid their candidates.
Along with his announcement that he would be visiting the state, Trump stressed the importance of massive voter turnout among Republicans.
“Otherwise we are playing right into the hands of some very sick people,” he warned.
“Cutting off your nose to spite your face”
The White House subsequently confirmed that the president is scheduled to hold a campaign rally in Georgia early next month.
Trump issued his call to action in response to recent reports that some of his supporters in Georgia are planning to boycott the important runoff race.
Atlanta Tea Party founder Debbie Dooley, however, dismissed any suggestion that conservatives should stay home, as she explained to Politico: “That’s like cutting off your nose to spite your face.”
Dooley echoed other GOP leaders in emphasizing the high stakes of the runoff race as the party currently holds a slim 50-48 majority over Democrats.
“The Republicans have to win one of those seats,” she said. “If Democrats win both of those seats, if you boycott the runoff or you write in names, you are giving Democrats control of the Senate and they will have total control of the government.”
