When asked about the election Thursday, President Donald Trump struck a defiant note.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said that he would “certainly” accept the Electoral College declaring Democratic nominee Joe Biden the winner of the White House race, but that “massive fraud” on Biden’s side would make it “very hard” to concede, the Washington Examiner reported.
“We know there was massive fraud”
President Trump has continuously claimed that Biden stole the election through coordinated fraud, snatching away what looked like a comfortable victory for Trump on election night. From his comments Thursday, Trump made it clear that he would not go down without a fight.
The press conference kicked off with a question from a reporter about what plans Trump had for his “last” Thanksgiving in the White House. Trump insisted that the race isn’t over yet and that he won by a “tremendous amount,” as he alleged that hundreds of thousands of fraudulent ballots had been cast in swing states.
“You’re going to see things happening over the next week or two that are going to be shocking to people,” he said, according to a transcript from Rev.
Asked if he would accept the Electoral College declaring Biden the winner, Trump said, “Certainly I will,” but he added that it would be a “mistake,” since the election was improper.
“It’s going to be a very hard thing to concede because we know there was massive fraud,” Trump said, as the Washington Examiner reported.
“No way” Biden got 80 million votes
Trump also said that Democrats used the coronavirus as a pretext to set up an election that was like something out of a “third world country” and attacked a range of anomalies, saying there is “no way” that Biden received 80 million votes — even more than his charismatic former boss, former President Barack Obama.
“But what they did is they used COVID in order to defraud the people of this country,” Trump contended Thursday. “And the whole world is watching, and the whole world is laughing at our electoral process. The whole world is watching, and it’s a very sad thing, a very sad thing.”
At one point, Trump unloaded on a reporter who interrupted him.
“You’re just a lightweight. Don’t talk to me that way. I’m the President of the United States. Don’t ever talk to the president that way,” Trump said, according to the transcript.
Asked about attending a Biden inauguration, Trump wouldn’t say either way what he’d do. The president did say, however, that he would be going to Georgia soon to campaign for Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in the high-stakes Senate runoffs.
