Kayleigh McEnany touts ‘successful operation to rescue an American hostage’ in West Africa

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany was proud to tout on Saturday the Trump administration’s success in one area that has gotten little coverage in the mainstream media: rescuing American hostages.

“Under this president, we’ve rescued 55 hostages in 24 countries,” McEnany said of President Donald Trump during an appearance on Fox & Friends Weekend, according to Fox News.

“We are so glad”

McEnany’s comments came after a raid by the elite Navy SEAL Team 6 led to the rescue of an American who was being held hostage in Nigeria, as Fox News reported separately.

“The elite commandos jumped out of a U.S. Air Force transport plane a few miles from the target,” Fox reported Saturday. “Without suffering any casualties, the SEALs rescued Philip Walton, 27, after killing a number of his captors.”

Later that day, McEnany gave Fox News some behind-the-scenes information about the raid. The press secretary said she spoke with some of the soldiers who were involved, and they told her that they are “so proud” to “have a president that trusts us and gives us the green light” to “take out…horrid murderers who have killed far too many of our American men and women in battle.”

“It was a successful operation to rescue an American hostage,” McEnany added on Fox & Friends Weekend. “We are so glad to see it.”

“We got our young man back”

Trump, for his part, also celebrated the successful rescue in a tweet on Saturday.

“Last night, our Country’s brave warriors rescued an American hostage in Nigeria,” the president wrote. “Our Nation salutes the courageous soldiers behind the daring nighttime rescue operation and celebrates the safe return of yet another American citizen!”

The president touted the rescue again during a campaign stop in Pennsylvania. “The kidnappers wished they had never done it,” he said Saturday, according to Fox. “We got our American citizen, we got our young man back, but the other side suffered gravely.”

“We don’t stop”

It’s all part of what McEnany characterized as a non-stop effort by the Trump administration to get things done.

“In the waning days of a presidency before a massive re-election, you typically don’t get a lot done, but this president is the exception,” she told Fox & Friends Weekend, as Fox News reported. “That’s the story of this presidency. We don’t stop.”

McEnany went on: “We go to 14 states, we rescue hostages, we secure Middle East peace, we do it in record time, and we do it three days before an election.”
