Text message from Hunter Biden shows intent to structure deal to avoid federal registration requirements
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his allies in the Democratic Party and the media have repeatedly insisted that concerns surrounding his son Hunter Biden’s shady international business dealings are baseless and that nothing untoward ever occurred.
New evidence suggests, however, that Hunter Biden and his associates took steps to reduce the appearance that their business arrangements were in violation of federal corruption and lobbying laws, the Washington Examiner reported.
Avoid having to register with feds
A text message between Hunter Biden and then-business partner Tony Bobulinski on May 1, 2017 that was recently released by Bobulinski shows Hunter trying to structure a potential business deal with a Chinese company linked to the communist regime in a way that avoided having to register as foreign agents with the federal government.
“No matter what it will need to be a U.S. company at some level in order for us to make bids on federal and state-funded projects,” Biden’s text to Bobulinski reads. “Also we don’t want to have to register as foreign agents under the FCPA [Foreign Corrupt Practices Act] which is much more expansive than people who should know choose not to know. James has very particular opinions about this so I would ask him about the foreign entity.”
Hunter continued, “Regardless, we should have a DE [Delaware] come (sic) called CEFC America and ownership should be 50 me 50 them. We then cut up our 50 in a separate entity between the 4 of us. Create that company call it BWBG or whatever it’s just a pass through.”
The Examiner noted that it’s unclear if Biden meant to refer to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which prohibits making payments to foreign officials in return for securing business deals, or if he actually meant the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which requires those working on behalf of foreign interests to disclose such affiliations.
Meeting with Joe Biden
Only one day after that text message was sent, Hunter Biden arranged to meet with Bobulinski and his father to discuss the deal with a Chinese conglomerate linked to the ruling regime, The Daily Caller reported.
That meeting, which Bobulinski has confirmed, undermines the repeated claim from Biden that he was entirely unaware of his son’s business dealings and had no knowledge or involvement.
Other text messages and emails obtained from Hunter Biden’s laptop, as well as devices owned by Bobulinski, make it clear that Biden — apparently known as the “Big Guy” in some of those messages — had at least some level of knowledge and involvement in his son’s foreign business practices.
Biden camp still denies any involvement
Some of the messages, not to mention a Senate investigation report, indicate that the planned business deal involving Bobulinski didn’t come to fruition, though a similar deal was ultimately reached on the side involving the Chinese company that excluded Bobulinski.
Yet, despite the growing evidence of potential wrongdoing, or at the very least the strong appearance of significant conflicts of interest, the Biden campaign continues to maintain Biden’s ignorance and lack of involvement.
“Joe Biden has never even considered being involved in business with his family, nor in any overseas business whatsoever. He has never held stock in any such business arrangements nor has any family member or any other person ever held stock for him,” the campaign told the Washington Examiner.
