Reports claim Trump may be planning to replace Bill Barr

In a report published Thursday, Salon‘s Igor Derysh alleged that President Donald Trump may be planning to fire Attorney General Bill Barr.

Derysh cited an earlier report from The Washington Post that suggested Trump could be giving both Barr and FBI Director Christopher Wray the boot as he “grows increasingly frustrated that federal law enforcement has not delivered his campaign the kind of last-minute boost that the FBI provided in 2016.”

Writing Thursday, Derysh was more direct for Salon:

Trump has been unhappy that Wray and Barr have not publicly announced an investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, his son Hunter Biden, or his associates, aides told the [Washington Post].

Time to act

According to Derysh, Trump first called on Barr earlier this week to “appoint somebody” to probe allegations of corruption by the Bidens. “This is major corruption, and we have to know about this before the election. The attorney general has to act,” he said, according to Fox News.

The remarks came after a bombshell report was published by the New York Post alleging that emails had been uncovered showing Joe Biden knew, as vice president, about his son Hunter’s business dealings in Ukraine, China, and elsewhere.

Since then, more information has to come to light about the hard drive that the emails were found on, including that it may have had on it evidence of sexual misconduct by Hunter Biden.

“We’ve got to get the attorney general to act,” Trump said earlier this week with regard to an investigation into it all, according to Fox.

Going down in history

Indeed, it’s Barr’s apparent inaction that reportedly has him in hot water. Derysh reported Thursday that “Trump has also grown increasingly critical of Barr after he told Republican lawmakers that the much-hyped investigation by U.S. Attorney John Durham into the origins of the Russia probe would not be completed before the election.”

Trump refused to say directly whether he was considering replacing Barr in a recent interview with Newsmax TV, but he didn’t shy away from making his opinion clear.

“I’m not happy, with all of the evidence I had, I can tell you that. I am not happy,” the president said, according to Derysh.

It all doesn’t bode well for the attorney general who Trump once called “a man of unbelievable credibility and courage.”

“He’s going to go down in the history of our country,” Trump said in May, according to The New York Times. And it may just happen sooner than later.
