‘Change my vote’ blows up Google searches after Hunter Biden allegations

It’s an election like no other: 65 million people have already voted by mail or during early voting initiatives spurred on by the pandemic.

Recent allegations against Joe and Hunter Biden reported by the New York Post as well as comments Biden made about “transitioning” away from the oil industry have apparently led enough early voters to regret their decision to make “change my vote” trend in Google searches, according to information provided by toptradeguru.com.

“Change by vote” hit the maximum on Google’s searches chart on October 24 and was still trending strongly the next day, as seen in this tweet.

Voter regret spiking after debate

The searches were strongest in states highly dependent on the oil industry for jobs and revenue, including Pennylvania, Florida, North Carolina, Michigan, Georgia, Texas, Wisconsin, Oregon, Arizona, and Minnesota.

Many of these are swing states President Donald Trump needs to win in order to eke out an Electoral College victory, so small numbers of vote changes could be significant in terms of an election result.

The New York Post reported that people who searched for “change my vote” also searched for information on Hunter Biden and related topics.

Arizona, Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota allow voters to change their votes using a number of different methods. But will voters be motivated enough to actually change their votes if it means going to the polls in person to do so, as is the case in Pennsylvania?

And if there are significant vote changes, will that lead to longer lines at polling places and prevent others from voting, as well as adding to the general chaos many fear will characterize this contest?

Trump says “go do it”

For his part, Trump is encouraging voters to change their votes from Biden to him if they regret their original choice, the Post reported.

Trump tweeted that voters should “go do it” if they wanted to change their votes and that it was the “most important Election of your life!”

It will be interesting to see whether Trump wins because of people changing their votes. It’s yet another way in which the 2020 election will be one for the history books.
