President Donald Trump is touting his latest step toward cutting unnecessary federal spending by slashing a program his administration has deemed “un-American propaganda.”
In a statement this week, the Office of Management and Budget announced an end to federal training based on critical race theory, as reported by Breitbart.
“Cease and desist from using taxpayer dollars”
Such programs are built on the presumption of widespread systemic racism within the nation’s structure, though the president and many within his administration have expressed contrary beliefs.
Instead of earmarking tax dollars for programs designed to expose federal employees to critical race theory, OMB Director Russell Vought cited a presidential imperative for his decision to defund the program.
He wrote that Trump instructed him “to ensure that Federal agencies cease and desist from using taxpayer dollars to fund these divisive, un-American propaganda training sessions.”
Vought argued in a memo to the heads of executive departments and agencies that the programs are antithetical to the federal government’s mission.
“These types of ‘trainings’ not only run counter to the fundamental beliefs for which our Nation has stood since its inception, but they also engender division and resentment within the Federal workforce,” he claimed.
“Cannot be allowed to continue”
While Trump’s move attracted criticism from his political rivals, he holds the authority to make such decisions as the head of the executive branch. As for carrying out the president’s orders, Vought has provided a clear directive to the leadership of relevant departments.
“All agencies are directed to begin to identify all contracts or other agency spending related to any training on ‘critical race theory,’ ‘white privilege,’ or any other training or propaganda effort that teaches or suggests either (1) that the United States is an inherently racist or evil country or (2) that any race or ethnicity is inherently racist or evil,” Vought wrote.
He indicated that more detailed guidance will be forthcoming.
The president responded throughout Saturday morning with a series of tweets and retweets on the topic, calling critical race theory “a sickness that cannot be allowed to continue.”
For Americans concerned about the potential impact of this controversial theory within the federal government and beyond, this week’s development did not come a moment too soon.
