Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff (CA) is still stuck on Russia.
In a bombshell tweet Wednesday, the House Intelligence Committee chairman and impeachment ringleader floated a new investigation of President Donald Trump, saying another “whistleblower complaint” had emerged, according to a report published on Fox News host Sean Hannity’s website.
Another whistleblower
Yes, you read that right: the year is not 2019, and this has nothing to do with Ukraine — for now, anyway.
The complaint is from a Department of Homeland Security official, Brian Murphy, who claims that the DHS tried to bury evidence of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S election. Schiff has summoned Murphy, who says he was retaliated against, to testify on Sept. 21.
“We’ve received a whistleblower complaint alleging DHS suppressed intel reports on Russian election interference, altered intel to match false Trump claims and made false statements to Congress,” Schiff tweeted Wednesday. “This puts our national security at risk. We will investigate.”
Schiff has been one of the loudest voices claiming that Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election, a claim that was discounted by Robert Mueller last spring, but that the Democrat has never given it up.
Members of the Trump administration, such as Attorney General Bill Barr, have said that China is a bigger threat to the upcoming election than Russia, but Schiff has pushed back, ostensibly with the angle that Trump wants election help from the Kremlin a second time — although a first attempt was never established.
Ready for round two?
The new complaint comes roughly a year after Schiff led an impeachment against Trump over the claims of a mysterious “whistleblower” who never stepped out of the shadows. (Notably, the new whistleblower has the same lawyer as the Ukraine whistleblower, Mark Zaid.)
As Breitbart’s Joel Pollak points out, the whistleblower also appears to be downplaying Antifa violence. Murphy claims that he was instructed by top DHS officials to minimize the threat of “white supremacists” and “include information on the prominence of violent ‘left-wing’ groups” in a domestic threats report, which refused to do. He objects to the demands as “policy” straight from President Trump, rather than intelligence — a little strange to say the least, coming from an official tasked with protecting the homeland.
The DHS denied the whistleblower’s claims, and Republicans were quick to dismiss them as another Schiff hoax.
“Yet another whistleblower complaint pushed into the limelight by Schiff, this one coming shortly before a presidential election – anyone who takes this at face value is ignoring Schiff’s long record of perpetuating hoaxes that are extremely similar to this,” a House Republican source told Fox News.
Gee, where have we heard this one before?
