Instead of calling out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for her shocking violation of San Fransisco’s coronavirus ordinances during what became a widely publicized visit a local hair salon, the city’s mayor opted to launch a vicious attack against President Donald Trump.
According to the Washington Examiner, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, a Democrat, blasted Trump Friday as a “dictator” and said that Pelosi is “at the forefront fighting against” the president “every day.”
“We have a terrorist, we have a dictator who is running this country, and Nancy Pelosi is at the forefront fighting against this person every day, you know,” Breed told reporters, according to the Examiner, “and I’m not trying to excuse what happened.”
The San Francisco mayor added: “I’m just saying that to allow an issue like this to turn our city upside down when we got folks who are homeless, we’ve got people who can’t open their business, including these salons. I understand.”
“Time for us to move on”
According to the Examiner, Breed said Friday that she empathizes with Americans’ frustrations with Pelosi’s actions, but said it’s “time for us to move on.”
“I get that they have these feelings,” she said, as the Examiner reported. “They are voicing their feelings, but we are doing the very best we can, and I know that’s not good enough for them, I understand. I get it, but at the end of the day, it is really time for us to move on.”
According to the Examiner, Breed also complained that “the reason why salons and other businesses like this can’t reopen has a lot to do with where we are as a country and the fact we have not had strong federal leadership and that’s what [Pelosi is] fighting against.”
“So look, Nancy Pelosi has done so much for this city and even this country and in the midst of this pandemic and all the stuff that’s happening amidst this election, she is in Washington D.C. fighting against a tyrant every single day,” the mayor insisted.
“It was a set-up”
The controversy first arose when Fox News published security footage showing Pelosi in San Francisco’s eSalon without a mask and despite a local order requiring the facility to remain closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can’t work,” salon owner Erica Kious told the network.
The House speaker responded by holding a press conference in which she professed ignorance of the coronavirus-related restrictions and claimed to be the victim of a “set-up.”
“I take responsibility for trusting the word of the neighborhood salon that I’ve been to over the years many times, and that when they said, well, we’re able to accommodate people one person at a time, and that we can set up that time, I trusted that. As it turns out, it was a set-up,” Pelosi told reporters, according to RealClearPolitics. “So I take responsibility for falling for a set-up. And that’s all I’m going to say on that.”
