Report: Harris-backed fundraiser to bail out alleged rioters continues even after Biden denounces violence

While Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden now condemns the violence that has run rampant in cities across the U.S. since late May, his running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris (D), has been caught continuing to raise money to bail alleged violent criminals out of jail in Minnesota.

According to the Daily Caller, Harris tweeted a link to a fundraising page for the Minnesota Freedom Fund on June 1 — and the page, which bears her picture, is still active and processing transactions.

Notably, Biden’s condemnation of “violence” during protests in cities like Portland, Oregon, and Kenosha, Wisconsin, was done in particularly vague terms. The former vice president has repeatedly refused to condemn specific groups like Antifa, which Attorney General Bill Barr has named as an instigator of violence.

Still, Harris’ continued bail-outs of criminals accused of exactly what Biden is criticizing calls into question how unified the Democratic presidential ticket really is — and makes it unclear what stance, exactly, the Dems are taking on the ongoing riots.

Biden backtracks

It took Biden three months to finally speak up against the cloud of violence that have overtaken protests that began in May after George Floyd, a Black man, died in police custody.

While many on the left have claimed the demonstrations are mostly peaceful, the counterexamples just keep adding up — and it seems Biden’s camp is in denial. Indeed, the violence wasn’t mentioned by a single one of the dozens of speakers at the Democratic National Convention in August, according to reports, despite the fact that numerous injuries and some deaths of police and protesters had occurred by that point.

Finally, when Biden’s poll numbers began to fall and President Donald Trump’s began to rise after the Democrat and Republican conventions, the Biden campaign knew it had to address the subject.

“You know, as I said after George Floyd’s murder,” Biden said in late August, according to the Daily Caller, “protesting brutality is a right and absolutely necessary. But burning down communities is not protest, it’s needless violence — violence that endangers lives, violence that guts businesses and shutters businesses that serve the community.”

Harris harvests donations

The Freedom Fund received national attention after Floyd’s death and the subsequent protests, and it quickly raised $35 million after receiving support from Harris and others, according to The Hill.

Harris reportedly donated to the fund herself, along with a number of Biden’s staffers.

According to the Daily Caller, among those the Harris-supported group has bailed out is Jaleel Stallings, who is charged with attempted murder for shooting at a SWAT team during riots in May. The Freedom Fund paid $75,000 for Stallings’ bail.

A woman accused of stabbing her friend to death and a twice-convicted sex offender are among others that the group bailed out, the Daily Caller reported.
