Though she rose to prominence early in life as a child actress, Alyssa Milano more frequently makes headlines these days for her progressive activism — including statements of apparent hatred toward President Donald Trump and those who support him.
In a recent social media attack, she took the rhetoric to a new level, suggesting that the Republican Party and presumably all its members should be “tried for treason,” as reported by Breitbart.
Part of an orchestrated response
To be clear, the crime she mentioned is potentially punishable under federal law by death.
Her extreme stance is apparently tied to the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic and came in the form of a tweet she posted on Thursday.
The entire @GOP should be tried for treason. #TrumpKnewVoteBlue

Her over-the-top assertion included the hashtag “#TrumpKnewVoteBlue,” an apparent response to recently released audio from interviews Trump granted to veteran journalist Bob Woodward for the latter’s latest book.
Trump can be heard in the clips telling Woodward early on in the COVID-19 crisis that he publicly played down its severity in order to prevent widespread panic.
“I have not seen that kind of distortion”
The president’s critics, including Milano, have insisted that his actions endangered the lives of Americans and that more decisive action during those first weeks and months could have prevented thousands of deaths.
Of course, presidential candidate Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and other prominent Democrats who also received COVID-19 briefings were similarly urging for calm during the same period.
As for Dr. Anthony Fauci, a prominent fixture on the White House coronavirus task force, the president was not guilty of negligence — or worse — in his early characterization of the virus’s risk.
“I didn’t get any sense that he was distorting anything,” Fauci said in a Fox News Channel interview this week. “I mean in my discussions with him, they were always straightforward about the concerns that we had. We related that to him. And when he would go out, I’d hear him discussing the same sort of things. He would often say, ‘We just got through with a briefing with the group from the task force,’ and would talk about it. So it may have happened, but I have not seen that kind of distortion.”
Maybe he is one of the Americans who Milano believes should face treason charges.
