Nancy Pelosi says climate change is Democrats’ top priority, coronavirus relief comes after election
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) proves time and time again that her priorities do not lie with representing or advocating for the American people.
Though Pelosi has stalled on providing economic relief from coronavirus-inspired lockdowns, she has confirmed that the hill that Democrats will die on in 2021 is major climate change legislation.
Pelosi shows her cards
Just over a week after Pelosi was caught violating COVID-19 precautions to get her hair cut in a San Francisco salon and days after once again rejecting GOP proposals to deliver economic relief to Americans, Pelosi announced the platform that she will implement if Democrats keep the House in November.
“When Joe Biden says, ‘Build back better,’ that better includes building back in a way that is resilient, that is green, that protects the planet,” Pelosi told reporters on Thursday. “So I don’t know if it’s one bill or it permeates a number of bills, but it is absolutely a priority.”
One of the commitments Pelosi has made is to reboot Climate Action Now legislation, which would force the US to rejoin the Paris Agreement on climate change that Trump withdrew from in 2017.
Other priorities of the legislation would force states to “account for climate change before undertaking projects and meet certain greenhouse gas emission goals when they accept funding,” according to the Hill.
Pelosi pointed to the massive wildfires consuming the west coast as proof that her legislative priorities are valid, though she failed to address the fact that California has been the most progressive state in terms of climate change interventions for years, and still experiences the worst wildfires of any US state.
Relief after the election
As the election draws closer, Democrats are becoming more transparent about the abuse of their power to achieve their goals. Democrats — led by Pelosi — have clamored for extreme lockdowns that cause unprecedented economic damage, yet refuse to compromise with GOP legislators to deliver relief.
Pelosi claims that the reason over half-a-dozen GOP offers have been rejected is that the offers don’t provide enough relief, especially to states. However, Pelosi admitted on Thursday that if Democrats win the House back in November, a relief package will be their top priority.
Pelosi was only words away from outright admitting that House Democrats are holding Americans hostage in order to make Donald Trump and the GOP look bad in order to score points in the election.
Pelosi told reporters that Democrats’ “number one priority” — if they win — is approving coronavirus economic relief in order to safely “open up our schools and our economy.”
“A pandemic descends upon you and eclipses everything,” she said. “Preserving the planet for future generations is the challenge to this generation. We’re late. America is not a leader in this [with] the Republican presidents,” Pelosi said, making it clear why she has obstructed any meaningful policy changes for months on end.
