Kamala Harris warns of Russian interference in November’s election

Vice presidential hopeful Kamala Harris has become the latest Democrat to go into full meltdown mode over — you guessed it — Russia.

The Washington Examiner reports that Harris, the junior senator from California, said in a recent interview that she’s worried interference from the Kremlin could ruin her chances of getting into the White House.

“We have what happened in 2016, which is foreign interference,” Harris told CNN’s Dana Bash last week, according to the Washington Examiner.

The senator went on: “We have a president who is trying to convince the American people not to believe in the integrity of our election system and compromise their belief that their vote might actually count. These things are all at play.”

“The front of the line”

According to the Examiner, Harris told Bash that she’s certain Russia had a role in the election of President Donald Trump, and she thinks it could happen again this fall.

“I am clear that Russia interfered in the election of the president of the United States in 2016,” Harris insisted. “I serve on the Senate Intelligence Committee. We have published detailed reports about exactly what we believe happened.”

She added: “And I do believe that there will be foreign interference in the 2020 election and that Russia will be at the front of the line.”

“Fair and square”

Citing a report from the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC), USA Today revealed in August that while Russia may be hoping Trump reigns victorious this November, China and Iran are both stumping for Harris’ running mate, former Vice President Joe Biden.

Harris, of course, didn’t mention that in her talk with CNN.

“Tehran’s motivation to conduct such activities is, in part, driven by a perception that President Trump’s re-election would result in a continuation of U.S. pressure on Iran,” the NCSC report read. The report also contended that the Chinese government had expressed animus toward recent decisions by the Trump administration.

“Although China will continue to weigh the risks and benefits of aggressive action, its public rhetoric over the past few months has grown increasingly critical of the current administration’s COVID-19 response, closure of China’s Houston Consulate, and actions on other issues,” the NCSC alleged. It noted, however, that it will be “difficult for our adversaries to interfere with or manipulate voting results at scale,” according to USA Today.

The Trump campaign, for its part, has vowed that “President Trump will beat Joe Biden fair and square.” Campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh told USA Today in a statement:

The intelligence community’s assessment that both China and Iran are trying to stop President Trump’s re-election is concerning, but clearly because he has held them accountable after years of coddling by politicians like Joe Biden.
