Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) went in on Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) during an interview with “America First” host Sebastian Gorka on Monday, exposing her as a “straight-up machine candidate.”
Harris attempted to characterize herself as a political “outsider,” but like Democrat nominee Joe Biden, the claim is laughably transparent.
Gaetz goes off
After Gorka showed Gaetz a clip of Harris referring to herself as being from “outside the system,” Gaetz responded, “did Kamala Harris literally say she understands what it is like being outside the system?”
“Kamala Harris moved up in California politics because she was dating Willie Brown,” Gaetz continued. “She is a straight-up machine candidate. That is essentially how she moved up — became the state attorney general then ran for the United States Senate.”
Kamala Harris wants everyone to forget her very public affair with then-California assembly speaker Willie Brown in the 1990s. Brown notably appointed the young lawyer to the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board and the Medical Assistance Commission, despite a complete lack of experience in either field.
Both positions were highly lucrative for Harris, as she was only four years into her legal career at the time. Her time on those boards also boosted her political career and set the stage for her later campaigns for San Francisco District Attorney and Attorney General of California.
“I’m not entirely sure Kamala Harris is here to lecture any of us on what life is like outside the system,” Gaetz sniped.
Harris disappears
Since the announcement of Harris’s joining the Biden campaign as vice president broke, Harris has kept an uncharacteristically low profile, and Gaetz’s takedown of Harris could be the reason why.
Harris appears to be chosen as Biden’s running mate to check two important boxes that Biden could not himself — she’s a female candidate of color. As far as policy goes, however, Harris’s platform is highly off-putting for the average American voter.
Progressives that support her platform already know who she is and do not need to be pandered to, and trotting her out in front of swing voters is likely only to serve to further alienate the Biden campaign from Middle America — hence why she is keeping a surprisingly low profile.
Former President George W. Bush aide J.T. Young wrote on Monday that “The Democratic campaign’s intended focus is far more on Trump than on Biden … If Democratic strategists want Biden so effectively out of the picture, there is even less room in it for Harris. If Harris were to be campaigning aggressively, not only could it draw the spotlight from Trump, but it would inadvertently put it on Biden.”
Harris’s history as a prosecutor, coupled with her far-left ideology and questionable personal history in relation to her political career leaves her wide open for attack from the GOP — as Gaetz illustrated on Monday, thus we can expect to continue to see very little of Harris until after the election.
