Former National Security Adviser John Bolton, who has very publically attacked Donald Trump since leaving the White House in September of 2019, just struck down the Atlantic’s salacious claims that Trump denigrated fallen soldiers in 2018.
Bolton is no fan of Donald Trump, and in fact, released an entire book undermining Trump — so it’s telling that even Bolton would deny the Atlantic’s shocking claims.
Bolton comes forward
In a Monday appearance on “The Story,” Bolton addressed the claim that Donald Trump called fallen American soldiers in France “losers” after canceling a planned trip to the cemetery for American war dead in France in 2018.
Bolton, who was serving as NSA at the time and accompanied Trump on the trip, said that the allegations are “false.”
“According to what that article said, the president made disparaging remarks about soldiers and people buried in the cemetery in connection with the decision for him not to go to the ceremony that was planned that afternoon, and that was simply false,” Bolton said.
“I don’t know who told the author that, but that was false,” Bolton declared. The author of the bombshell hit piece is Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffery Goldberg, who cited anonymous sources to back up the claims.
Golberg told CNN that he won’t reveal the names of his sources because “They don’t want to be inundated with angry tweets and all the rest … in this case, I decided that I felt I knew this information well enough from high enough sources and multiple sources that I thought we should put it out.”
Dismantling the narrative
Bolton explained that the trip was simply canceled due to poor weather predictions. “The main issue was whether or not weather conditions permitted the president to go out to the cemetery,” Bolton said calling it a “very straight weather call.
Former White House deputy chief of staff Zach Fuentes corroborated the account on Monday, telling Breitbart that “you can put me on record denying that I spoke with The Atlantic. I don’t know who the sources are.”
“I did not hear POTUS call anyone losers when I told him about the weather,” Fuentes declared. “Honestly, do you think [Former White House Chief of Staff] General Kelly would have stood by and let ANYONE call fallen Marines losers?”
Bolton did not absolve Trump entirely from making disparaging statements, explaining that he simply does not believe Trump made them at the time Goldberg claims. “I can’t prove the negative that he never said those things,” Bolton said.
“I was simply responding to what I thought [was] the main point of The Atlantic article: that at the critical point Saturday morning, when the decision was made not to go to Aisne-Marne, that he made the disparaging remarks. And he did not.”
