Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), the two-time failed presidential candidate, is pushing concerns about the possibility of President Donald Trump refusing to leave office should he lose this November.
The senator’s comments came during a recent interview with Politico, in which he took issue with two statements that President Trump made, one back in July during an interview with Fox News and the other during the recently-held Republican National Convention.
“Trump was saying that the only way he could lose the election is if there was — let me get the exact quote — ‘the only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged election.’ Now, he is making that statement at a time when virtually every national poll has him behind,” Sanders said.
Scare tactics?
For a while now, Democrats, including Sanders, have been promoting the fear that President Trump, if he loses the general election, will refuse to leave the White House. Sanders, in the Politico interview, gave his version of what could go down this November.
“The nightmare scenario there is that, at a time when some states like Pennsylvania are finding that they don’t have the resources right now to count votes, their mail-in ballots, in a rapid way, that it is possible that in some states Trump will be winning on election night, and yet, when all of the votes are counted, he will be behind. He will lose,” Sanders said.
He continued: “But that during that interval, he will create chaos and confusion by claiming that there is massive fraud within the mail-in ballot process.”
The president, however, has made no such claim. Sanders is just trying to twist Trump’s words so as to make him look like some kind of dictator, a strategy that Democrats have been employing since Trump took office — and he plans to continue stoking voters’ fears about a “nightmare scenario” in an upcoming speech.
It’s getting old
What Trump did say, in the Fox interview to which Sanders was referring, is that he was not, at that time, willing to state whether he will simply concede should he lose — a sensible position.
“I have to see,” Trump told host Chris Wallace. “Look, you — I have to see. No, I’m not going to just say yes. I’m not going to say no, and I didn’t last time, either.”
This, regardless, is beside the point, since Trump has since stated that he will accept the results of the election.
What’s really going on?
In response to Sanders’ interview, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee asked the question on everyone’s minds: “Why is it that the left, who is pushing the mail-in ballots, are already predicting that the mail-in ballots are going to swing the election after the election to the Democrat?”
“Does that not seem just a little bit weird that they’re setting us up to have that scenario?” he asked. Good question…
