President Trump just received a historic endorsement from The New York City Police Benevolent Association, a union representing 24,000 officers in the embattled city.
The police union president, Patrick Lynch, said on Friday that he “cannot remember when we’ve ever endorsed for the president of the United States until now,” citing the astonishing attacks on the city’s police department for the organization’s decision.
Trump wins again
“I cannot remember when we’ve ever endorsed for the president of the United States until now,” Lynch said at Trump’s club in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Friday. “That’s how important this is. …. Mr. President, we’re fighting for our lives out there we don’t want this to spread to the country, we need your strong voice across the country.”
New York City’s police officers have been under extreme duress for months, beginning with the COVID-19 pandemic. In late March, New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot told NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan that she doesn’t ” give two rats’ asses about your cops” after he relayed an urgent request for 500,000 masks for his officers.
As a result of the New York City’s health department’s dismissal of the concerns about the safety of the city’s officers, the city’s police department experienced 5,490 cases of COVID-19, and 41 virus-related deaths.
After the virus ripped through the city, protest-turned-riots dealt another blow to New York’s finest, with city leadership again refusing to back its law enforcement officers.
President Trump noted in his speech accepting the union’s endorsement that “As we gather today, our country is suffering from a radical far-left movement” in which Democrat want to “defame, demoralize, defund, dismantle, and dissolve our great police departments.”
Trump pointed to accounts of “left-wing mobs” vandalizing the city, destroying police cars, and attacking and beating police officers for weeks as proof of the “left-wing war on cops” that Democrats have backed and will continue to back under the Biden administration.
Unions make the call
Lynch thanked Trump for his speech and support of the city’s cops.
“The sign of a leader is someone who will stand at a podium like this and speak the truth and will say what needs to be said and will not be afraid to do it,” Lynch said.
The New York City Police Benevolent Association’s endorsement of Trump follows the Florida Police Benevolent Association’s endorsement of the president two weeks ago.
The Florida Police Benevolent Association is the largest police union in the state, representing 30,000 law enforcement officers. President John Kazanjian said during a “Fox & Friends” appearance, “We’re getting used like a punching bag and we’re tired of it and President Donald Trump has been there for us. He supported us.”
