Michelle Obama sure loves her buzzwords.
The former first lady’s call for the nation to show more “empathy” was shallow and hypocritical, Rush Limbaugh said in response to her speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), as Fox News reports.
Limbaugh slams Obama speech
The former FLOTUS capped off the first night of the convention Monday with a lengthy, moralizing speech attacking President Donald Trump in stark terms. With Trump at the helm, America is morally adrift and lacking in “empathy,” she claimed.
“Empathy, that’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. The ability to walk in someone else’s shoes. The recognition that someone else’s experience has value to. Most of us practice this without a second thought, ” she declared.
But Limbaugh said that Obama, like other Democrats, was just putting on a show of superiority with her “empathy” talk, noting that she did not show any concern for people victimized in recent riots (Obama made no mention of them.)
“They don’t really care. They just want you to think they do and that is supposed to convince you that they are special people, that they care,” he said.
The host continued by asking, “How in the world, if you’re going to talk about empathy and how you’ve got more empathy than the Republicans, how in the world do you not talk about what is happening to law-abiding people in your own cities and states like Seattle and like Portland?”
“Dystopian” message
Limbaugh also took Obama to task for the dark and “dystopian” tone of her speech, in which she called on voters to choose Joe Biden “like our lives depend on it” and warned that “if you think it can’t get any worse, you better think again, because it sure as hell can.”
“They are obsessed with relating to people on the basis that life is misery and that it sucks and that there isn’t much chance to improve. ‘There isn’t much we can do. There’s certainly nothing you can do,'” Limbaugh said. “What the hell kind of message is that?”
Limbaugh wasn’t the only conservative commentator with harsh words for Mrs. Obama.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson slammed Obama’s speech as divisive and “pedestrian” in content, despite the mindless praise it received, and skewered a liberal cult of personality that requires people to “pretend that she’s Aristotle,” comparing Obama to Church of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.
One thing is clear: the Obamas certainly know how to get a crowd going.
