Newt Gingrich predicts convention will be ‘high-water mark’ for Biden-Harris campaign

While all eyes are on the Biden campaign during this week’s Democratic National Convention, some pundits believe it could all be downhill from here until Election Day.

As Fox News reported, former Republican U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich recently predicted that this week’s convention will be the “high-water mark” for former Vice President Joe Biden’s White House bid.

“The collapse”

His latest remarks came during a segment of Fox and Friends during which he said the Biden campaign is heading for a “collapse” and compared it to the dismal showing of Democratic nominee George McGovern in 1972.

The former senator’s failed bid against GOP nominee Richard Nixon went down as one of the worst presidential landslide defeats in U.S. history.

“This will be the high-water mark before the collapse of the Biden-Harris ticket,” Gingrich said of the DNC festivities planned throughout the week.

He expressed a similar sentiment in a recent opinion column that also included his belief that voters do not think it is likely that Biden will complete a full term if elected in November and are already envisioning running mate Kamala Harris as a potential president.

“Rasmussen just came out and said 55% of the country does not think Biden will complete his first term, which means people are going to be looking at Harris as a president, not a vice president,” he said in reference to a new report.

“A disaster”

Gingrich’s pointed critique continued to include his depiction of Harris as an “anti-Catholic bigot” and the “worst” running mate selection since Tom Eagleton, who dropped out of the 1972 race amid mental health concerns.

Not only did she lead a White House bid of her own that Gingrich dubbed “a disaster,” he described her policy positions as far-left and outside of the mainstream.

Of course, Gingrich is not the only Republican sounding the alarm about Harris’ perceived political extremism.

“She is farther left than 97% of the Democrats in the United States Senate,” opined conservative talk show host Mark Levin. “She is left of avowed Marxist Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders. She’s not moderate. She’s not a pragmatist like The New York Times.”

With recent polling that shows Biden’s lead over President Donald Trump diminishing, it might soon become clear to Democrats that Harris is not capable of delivering the enthusiasm that the ticket has clearly lacked.
