The rumors were true: Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden has chosen California Sen. Kamala Harris to join him in his run for the White House. And Vice President Mike Pence couldn’t be more excited about it.
The Washington Examiner reports that Pence indicated to a group of supporters Tuesday that he’s looking forward to facing Harris in a head-to-head debate this fall.
“Congratulations,” Pence said in a message to the Democrat lawmaker, according to the Arizona Republic. “I’ll see you in Salt Lake City.”
The first vice presidential debate is scheduled for Oct. 7, the Examiner reported.
VP debate looms
Many of Biden’s supporters were excited about his choice for VP: Harris, who once declared herself California’s “top cop,” has made a name for herself as an “ambitious” politician, in part thanks to her own bid for the White House during the Democratic primary season. She seems to have put aside her differences with Biden, however, to join forces on the Dems’ 2020 ticket.
Emblematic of the left’s response was a tweet from light-night comedian Stephen Colbert, who intimated that Harris was likely dancing with glee at the chance to face off against Pence.

The current vice president isn’t one to be easily rattled, however. As the Arizona Republic reported, he exhibited no concern about the prospect of debating California’s junior senator during Tuesday’s campaign event in Phoenix.
“It’s no surprise”
“I don’t know if you all heard the news, but on the way here I heard Joe Biden just named his running mate — California Senator Kamala Harris,” he told those in attendance, according to the Republic. “So let me take this opportunity to welcome her to the race.
“As you all know, Joe Biden and the Democratic Party have been overtaken by the radical left,” Pence added, as the Washington Examiner reported. “Given their promises of higher taxes, open borders, socialized medicine, and abortion on demand, it’s no surprise that [Biden] chose Senator Harris.”
Pence went on to urge those listening that November’s election matters more than ever. “The choice in this election is whether America remains America,” the VP said, according to the Arizona Republic.
That’s the message he’ll likely be sharing with voters again during October’s vice presidential debate against Harris. The countdown begins.
