Washington Post fact-check appears to prove Trump’s point about violence in Democrat-run cities

President Donald Trump has long maintained that the U.S. cities with the most crime and violence are run by Democrats. But when a mainstream media outlet recently tried to prove that assertion wrong, it came back to bite them in a big way.

The Washington Post declared in a Thursday headline that Trump is dead wrong “that the most dangerous cities in America are all run by Democrats.” But as the Daily Caller reported Saturday, the Post was forced to concede within the article that the president wasn’t that far off.

Yes, they really wrote that

“Trump keeps claiming that the most dangerous cities in America are all run by Democrats. They aren’t,” was the headline given by the Post to a Thursday article by reporter Philip Bump. But as the Daily Caller noted, the article appeared to dispute that.

According to the Daily Caller, the Post report came after Trump had asserted Wednesday that “every one” of the “20 most dangerous” cities in America was run by Democrats.

“Most of the current mayors of these cities are Democrats,” the Post report conceded, according to the Daily Caller. “Two of the mayors of cities with the most reported violent crimes overall, though, are independents and one, the mayor of Jacksonville, [Florida], is a Republican.”

The report added: “Among the 20 cities with the most violent crime per capita, one isn’t a Democrat: the independent mayor of Springfield, [Missouri].”

As the Daily Caller reported, Trump senior adviser Stephen Miller pointed out the irony in a Saturday tweet.

Fighting the fake news

Of course, this is just the latest example of the media doing its best to discredit the president. Ahead of and during the infamous Trump–Russia collusion probe, headed by then-Special Counsel Robert Mueller, many in the mainstream media touted theories that the president had openly worked with the foreign power to boost his election chances. Mueller found no evidence of that, as even The New York Times was forced to later admit.

But it seems those writing the mainstream headlines don’t care about getting the facts right — at least, not if the facts don’t fit their preferred narrative.

Perhaps this is why the president has been so adamant about fighting back against the fake news.
