White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany appeared on Fox&Friends Monday to explain why President Donald Trump tweeted a video that included a man shouting “white power” and later deleted it, after the media jumped all over it.
Trump praised “the great people of The Villages,” which is the large retirement community northwest of Orlando where the rally took place. “The Radical Left Do Nothing Democrats will Fall in the Fall. Corrupt Joe is shot. See you soon!!!,” he wrote.
“The president did not hear that phrase in that portion of the video, and when it was signaled to him that this was in there he took that tweet down,” McEnany said to explain the unfortunate circumstance.
The video depicted Trump supporters cheering for him while anti-Trump protesters tried to shout them down; the part where the man shouted “white power” was not the main part of the video.
Biden jumps on video to accuse Trump of white supremacism
“[Trump] made very clear to me that he stands with the people of The Villages, our great seniors, men and women in the Villages who support this president,” she continued. “He stands for them and his point in tweeting out that video was to stand with his supporters who are oftentimes demonized.”
Of course, rapidly declining Democrat presumptive nominee Joe Biden has already come out and tried to tie Trump to white supremacists once again.
“Today the President shared a video of people shouting ‘white power’ and said they were ‘great.’ Just like he did after Charlottesville,” Biden said, according to The Hill.
In 2017, Trump said there were “fine people on both sides” after white supremacists and protesters clashed in Charlottesville, but he later said he was referring to people defending the Confederate flag, not to white supremacists, with the comments.
Trump video retweet a red herring
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said in Trump’s defense that “neither the president, his administration nor I would do anything to be supportive of white supremacy,” according to the BBC.
Just like Charlottesville, the press likes to jump on anything that can be twisted around to make Trump look racist. While his supporters and some others with common sense see what the press is doing, others unfortunately have linked Trump with white supremacism in their minds.
It may be this false narrative that is causing Trump’s poll numbers to dip in the current climate of woke support for Black Lives Matter and other such causes, and his campaign would be wise to move as far away from the perception of him as supporting white supremacy as he possibly can.
As the hysteria fades, however, rational people will be able to see the truth and the damage will likely be undone in the near future. Joe Biden is not a viable candidate, and the American people will be able to see that clearly after he stops hiding in the basement and has to actually campaign and debate Trump.
