Rep. Doug Collins slams Pelosi for attacking Trump ‘every time we turn around’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) are now proposing two separate investigations of President Donald Trump’s coronavirus response, and while some observers might view such probes as extraordinary measures, Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) says they’re just business as usual.

“Every time we turn around, the speaker Pelosi, Adam Schiff, all they want to do is take any environment they can and turn it to attack the president,” the Georgia Republican told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday, according to the Washington Examiner.

Collins slams Pelosi, praises Trump

“The president is doing a good job,” Collins continued. “The president is working hard. He’s on TV every day. He’s talking to the American people every day. He’s got his — Vice President [Mike] Pence leading the task force, all these leaders leading.”

“It’s sort of amazing. I heard a quote yesterday from Speaker Pelosi. I think she said about this [investigative] commission that ‘wherever there’s money is, there’s mischief,’” Collins added.

“I mean, that’s pretty rich coming from basically the speaker who is the pied piper of pork, who tried to put everything into [the stimulus] bill and was worried about where it’s going now,” the congressman concluded.

Investigations in the offing

Collins’ comments were in response to a “Dear Colleague” letter from Pelosi to members of Congress that read, “The committee will be empowered to examine all aspects of the federal response to the coronavirus.”

According to Pelosi’s communication, the committee will have the authority to “press to ensure that the federal response is based on the best possible science and guided by the nation’s best health experts.”

Meanwhile, Schiff has also called for yet another inquiry into the administration’s coronavirus response “to make sure there’s no favoritism in terms of political allies, no discrimination against states or governors based on lack of presidential flattery.”

Same old song

Rep. Collins isn’t the only one who is becoming exasperated with Pelosi and Schiff’s relentless partisan attacks. Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) told the Washington Examiner that “Congress should look into why Nancy Pelosi insisted on $25 million for the Kennedy Center” as part of the coronavirus relief package passed last month.

Wenstrup went on to note that the arts and cultural facility “has not been converted to a hospital to treat coronavirus patients, but it’s reported they are laying off most of their staff.”

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) agreed, stating, “I’d rather have a select committee to investigate how so much liberal pork got into the Covid response bill.”

House Judiciary Committee member Jim Jordan (R-OH) succinctly summed up the GOP’s overall outlook on the Democrats’ antics, lamenting, “It’s the same old, same old. “They never miss a beat to get political and go after the president.”
