James Carville says pressure will soon mount on Bernie Sanders to exit race

Former Vice President Joe Biden has once again become the Democratic Party’s front runner following his upset victories on Super Tuesday, and in the eyes of former Bill Clinton campaign strategist James Carville, that will cause pressure to mount on Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to drop out of the race sooner rather than later, The Hill reported.

“I think what we might be starting to see Democrats starting to ask Sanders: ‘Look, let’s just don’t drag this thing out any more than we have to,” Carville predicted.

“I mean, people want to get on to the general election. They want to get on to defeating Donald Trump,” he continued.

Carville’s warning

The notoriously outspoken Democrat insider went on to accuse Sanders of having “showed nothing” in his Super Tuesday results.

“I think Sanders is showing hardly any showing with the African Americans, who are our most loyal constituency, and our most exciting new constituency — and that is these educated white women,” Carville opined.

“And, if we’re going to beat Donald Trump, we can’t be lollygagging around here for a lot longer because it seems like the party is starting to make a decision,” he concluded.

Dire consequences predicted

This is not the first time that Carville and Sanders have come into conflict in recent months. Following the Iowa caucuses, Carville warned that by embracing Sanders, Democrats were of danger of turning into “the British Labor Party,” referring to the devastating electoral loss suffered by far-left candidate Jeremy Corbyn in Britain’s 2019 general election.

The Vermont senator responded to those comments in a CNN interview by describing Carville as “a hack” who is working for the party’s establishment, according to Fox News. Carville didn’t take the characterization lying down.

“Last night on CNN, Bernie called me a political hack,” he told Vanity Fair. “That’s exactly who the f–k I am! I am a political hack! I am not an ideologue. I am not a purist.”

In a subsequent interview with Vox, Carville argued that a Sanders nomination would have disastrous down-ballot consequences for Democrats.

“There’s no chance in hell we’ll ever win the Senate with Sanders at the top of the party defining it for the public,” he insisted. “There’s no chance we’ll change the courts, and nothing will happen, and he’ll just be sitting up there screaming in the microphone about the revolution.”

Some observers fear that a Sanders loss — or even widespread perception of a rigged nomination process — could lead to volatile, perhaps even violent reactions from some of the senator’s more fervent supporters. In January, Project Veritas released undercover footage showing a Sanders field organizer threatening that “Milwaukee will burn” if Sanders does not become the nominee.
