Fox Nation host Britt McHenry confirmed some very sad news this week: the 33-year-old is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor.
“I was trying to keep this relatively private,” McHenry said on Twitter Thursday. “But as usual, things are being said without my consent.”
“I have a brain tumor,” she continued. “I’m with an amazing medical team and surgery is imminent. Thank you for continued support and understanding at this time.”
“I had good & bad news today. Overwhelmed by the support by friends & strangers alike. With the best surgeons and doctors.”
“Just another thing to take on. Please I can’t stress enough, make your check-ups. Get an MRI early. It could have saved me.”
Outpouring of support
Television personality Meghan McCain offered support to McHenry, tweeting, “Sending love and strength Brit. Please let me know if there’s anything we can do.”
McCain’s father, the late Sen. John McCain passed away in 2018 after having been diagnosed with brain cancer the previous year.
Prior to working at Fox, McHenry was a correspondent for ESPN before being laid off in 2017. She attributed the job loss to being “white and paid too much.”
Lawsuits and controversy
Last year McHenry sued Fox News, claiming to have been sexually harassed by co-host George Murdoch. USA Today quoted McHenry as saying she “had to stand up for what’s right for myself and for women.”
Her lawyer, Lisa Bloom, said, “Britt McHenry’s bombshell story should not be happening at Fox News in 2019. I am proud to represent her as she demands justice.”
In addition to appearing on television, McHenry has also written for The Federalist. She accused transgender athletes of cheating in an article from February of 2019, likening their participation to allowing steroid use.
“We don’t allow steroids in professional sports, so why should we allow genetic enhancement or alteration drugs in amateur sports?” McHenry asked.
